Did anyone expect the Badgers to start the season this bad?

Wisconsin was dominated at home by Michigan 38-17 on Saturday.

The Badgers rushed for just 43 yards and struggled to get anything going on offense. Graham Mertz actually didn’t play too bad, going 8-15 for 115 yards and a touchdown, but was knocked out of the game after taking a big hit.

The Wisconsin defense did a good job of holding the powerful Michigan running attack to just 112 yards, but they allowed Michigan’s quarterbacks, three of them played, to go 18-30 for 253 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Probably the best game they have collectively played so far, considering the opponent.

The remarkable thing is, Wisconsin still has a chance to make the Big Ten title game. They’ll need some help from Penn State this weekend and then will need to beat Iowa themselves, but this team has the talent to get going.

The question is though, will they get going? Right now, that doesn’t look likely, but they play Illinois this week, so maybe they get a feel-good win.
