Iowa had another Iowa game this past Saturday with a 24-14 win over Colorado State.

The Hawkeyes actually trailed 14-7 at the half, but regrouped to score 17 unanswered in the second half.

Quarterback Spencer Petras had one of his better games, going 15-23 for 224 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The run game, which had carried this team so far, didn’t do much in this one, totaling just 54 yards.

The Iowa defense was strong again, especially in the second half.  They are allowing just 11 points per game and are rightfully considered one of the best defenses in the country. Linebacker Jack Campbell had a big-time game on Saturday with 18 tackles and two pass defends. Campbell already has 43 tackles this season and looks to be the next great Iowa linebacker.

This team is winning, but it feels like they are playing with fire every week. The offense has not impressed anyone and although the defense is elite, they haven’t played any high-powered offenses yet.

This Maryland game on Friday will tell us if this team deserves this No. 1 spot going forward or not. They will have to score, because Maryland will put up some points, we’ll see how they respond.
