Big Ten week 5 power rankings: The East, including Penn State, is dominating
No C.J. Stroud, no problem.
Even without their starting quarterback, Ohio State had no trouble with Akron, slamming the Zips, 59-7.
True freshman, and former 5-star recruit, Kyle McCord started for the injured Stroud and had an efficient day, going 13-18 for 319 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Running backs Treveyon Henderson and Master Teague each scored two touchdowns on the ground for the Buckeyes.
Akron is really bad, so it’s hard to tell if Ohio State is improving or not, but only giving up seven points was a sign of progress for the defense. The backups played just as good as the starters as well, as Akron’s only score came in the first quarter.
It’s unclear how long Stroud will be out, but McCord looks capable of doing the job for this talent-rich Ohio State offense. A battle with that scrappy Rutgers team awaits the Buckeyes this weekend.
