The Wolverines started conference play with a 20-13 win over Rutgers.

Michigan looked really good in this game early, jumping out to a 20-3 lead, then they parked the bus on offense. Now, some of the second half struggles should be credited to Rutgers defense, but 47 yards of total offense in the second half was quite underwhelming.

Cade McNamara and the passing attack continues to be average at best, as he went 9-16 for 163 yards. The dominant Wolverine rushing attack was also absent as the team totaled 112 rushing yards of 38 carries, an average of 2.9.

Defensively, the team was fine and this squad came up big in the fourth quarter as Rutgers had multiple opportunities to tie the game and were forced back. This unit is allowing just 11.8 points per game so far this season.

When Michigan can run the ball, they are hard to beat, when they can’t, games like this past Saturday can occur. Regardless, the Wolverines are 4-0 and head to Madison for showdown with the struggling Badgers.
