Anyone’s Guess No. 3

165
Alex Facundo
Record: N/A
Preseaon Rank: N/A

Can you possibly imagine one of the youngest starting lineups in all of collegiate wrestling last season become even younger for this season?

Well thanks to a free year of wrestling last season (eligibility wise), it’s very possible.

Penn State Wrestling trotted out six freshman in their starting lineup last season for the B1G Championships. Of the six freshman only Robbie Howard was a true freshman.

And with what I’m predicting for this year’s starting lineup, the Nittany Lions may send out five freshman with two of them being true freshman.

Obviously a handful of the grapplers with freshman eligibility have a good chunk of experience under their belts, but they’re still freshman.

Which is brings us to the last starting slot at 165. And I’m going to have a bit of a caveat with this one. While I truly believe Facundo will eventually be the starter at 165, I don’t have much faith he will be the guy out of the gates in the 2021-2022 season.

But I think once Facundo is able to wrestle in some tournaments and invitationals, while maybe sprinkling in a dual appearance here and there, he’ll be the guy at 165 once the B1G Championships roll around in March.

Am I confident in this prediction? Not really. But I’m certainly confident in whoever Cael Sanderson decides to go with at 165.

Only time will tell.
