Sean Clifford makes Penn State Football history in win over Villanova
By Nick Kreiser
Sean Clifford was 19/26 for 401 yards and four touchdowns in Penn State Football’s win over Villanova on Saturday.
Penn State Football quarterback Sean Clifford is now only the second quarterback in program history to throw for 400 yards in a single game … and he is the first to do so on United States soil.
Christian Hackenberg is the only other quarterback in school history to throw for 400 yards in a single game. He threw for 454 yards in a win over UCF in Dublin, Ireland in week one of the 2014 season, the first game of the James Franklin era.
Coming into this season, Clifford only had three career starts where he had better than a 70% completion percentage. He now has his third straight game with a completion percentage of over 70%, finishing at 73% against the Wildcats.
Clifford’s career completion percentage is now 61.9%, which is the best in Penn State Football history.
This was also Clifford’s third career game with four touchdown passes;

Finally, Sean Clifford moved from fourth to second on Penn State’s career passing touchdown list today, with 49. He passed Matt McGloin (46) and Christian Hackenberg (48) during the win over Villanova. Trace McSorley still has a comfortable lead in that category, with 77 career touchdown passes.
If Clifford continues to play well and improve on a weekly basis, he will surely continue to climb up the Penn State Football record books.
