Penn State football: Top-10 moments in ‘White Out’ history

No. 3 K.J. Hamler goes off against Michigan in 2019

During the 2018 college football season, star wide receiver K.J. Hamler made his presence felt as a redshirt freshman, especially in the White Out game. We spoke earlier about his efforts against Ohio State in 2018, and in 2019, he would go off, dominating the Michigan Wolverines in a Penn State victory.

Hamler, who would play only two seasons with the Nittany Lions before being a second-round pick of the Denver Broncos, had helped Penn State to a No. 7 ranking in the country heading into the White Out matchup against the Wolverines. In fact, this was a College Gameday experience for the fans, and the Nittany Lions did not disappoint.

Led by Hamler, Penn State battled all game with Michigan, and it took a Sean Clifford to Hamler beautifully thrown pass to kick off the fourth quarter to get some breathing room. Hamler had missed a key pass earlier in the game, but it did not affect him the rest of the way, as he hauled in six passes for over 100 yards and two scores.

Clifford was outstanding on this day as well, tossing four touchdowns, but it was the 53-yard strike to Hamler that put the game away. Sure, Michigan would add a touchdown late, pulling to within seven, but this day belonged to Hamler, who also had a 100-yard kick return called back, and would have been another exclamation point to his outstanding day.
