Penn State football: Top-10 moments in ‘White Out’ history

No. 6: K.J. Hamler 93 yards to the house in 2018 vs. Ohio State

It was a matchup of two top-10 teams inside Beaver Stadium, and while the Nittany Lions did not come away with the win in this one, we were blessed with one of the greatest plays of the White Out history. Going into the game, wide receiver K.J. Hamler was a redshirt freshman, after sitting out his true freshman season due to tearing his ACL in high school.

In his first big matchup against the Nittany Lions rival, Hamler wasted no time etching his name in the history of the program. In fact, his 93-yard touchdown in the second quarter gave Penn State a 13-0 lead, as they looked to be pulling away from the No. 4-ranked team in the entire country.

Playing in front of 110,000-plus, Penn State was trying to accomplish what it did in 2016 when Ohio State was ranked No. 2 in the country, and the Nittany Lions were unranked. Instead, Ohio State would rally against Penn State in this one thanks to the play of Dwayne Haskins, their quarterback who would end up being a first-round pick.

The big moment in this game for the Nittany Lions was the play by Hamler, who would end up racking nearly 140 receiving yards in the game, en route to being named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week. For Hamler, his career at Penn State may have been only two seasons, but he jammed a lot of memories into those two years.
