Penn State football: Top-10 moments in ‘White Out’ history

No. 1 “Block-Six”

The Penn State Nittany Lions had no business being in the game against the Ohio State Buckeyes back in 2016, as Ohio State was one of the best teams in the country, coming into the White OUt matchup as the No. 2 team in the land. However, this is Penn State in White Out conditions, and anytime Beaver Stadium is rocking like it was that night, something special is bound to happen.

We could see it early on, as Ohio State was trying for the knockout punch, but Penn State would not fall. Up 21-7 going into the fourth quarter, it was assumed that a team like Ohio State would put Penn State away, but that did not happen, setting up a magical fourth quarter that would see the Nittany Lions score 17 unanswered, and capping the victory with arguably the biggest play in program history.

In the end, Penn State would grab their first lead when Marcus Allen blocked Ohio State’s field goal attempt with under five minutes left, and Grant Haley scooped it up and ran 60 yards for the touchdown. Named ‘Block Six,’ the moment was all Penn State needed to win this game, as the defense hunkered down, sacking J.T. Barrett on Ohio State’s last possession, and clinching an improbable victory.

It was their first win against Ohio State since 2011, and head coach James Franklin’s first win against a ranked opponent.

Saturday, the Nittany Lions will begin a new chapter in the history of the ‘White Out’ game, as they take on upstart Auburn. This has the makings of being one of the better games on the schedule in college football this weekend, and hopefully, the ‘White Out’ crowd can help Penn State football to the victory.
