Penn State Football’s run defense needs to improve

Penn State only allowed a total of 69 rushing yards against Ball State, but they allowed 180 in week one against Wisconsin. Auburn is a lot closer to Wisconsin’s level of talent, than they are to Ball State’s. So, Penn State will need to improve in stopping the run.

Overall, this Penn State Football defense has been excellent, but if I am going to nitpick and find something they need to be better at, it is stopping the run.

Even though Auburn’s two games so far this season have been against Akron and Alabama State, they have been excellent running the ball. Their top two backs are Jarquez Hunter and Tank Bigsby.

Hunter has 257 yards on just 17 carries, averaging to an impressive 15.1 yards per carry. Bigsby has carried the ball 24 times for 241 yards, which averages out to about 10 yards per carry. Each of them has two rushing touchdowns apiece.

Against Wisconsin, Penn State Football struggled to get off the field at times, in large part due to the Badgers being able to consistently run the ball for positive yards and pick up a first down. This translated into some very long drives for Wisconsin.

Penn State’s pass defense has been excellent, but they will need to be able to stop the run to get off the field and keep Auburn out of the end zone.

Hot. Penn State needs these players to carry momentum into Auburn. light
