Takeaways from Penn State Football’s blowout win over Ball State

Penn State Football Takeaway #2 – Clifford Still Missing on Some Throws
Well, we are officially through two games on the Penn State Football schedule, and Sean Clifford’s season total for turnovers? Zero.
Although, there are still some throws that Clifford is not connecting on, that he should.
The first one that sticks out is when he overthrew an open KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the end zone. That is a throw that could have (and should have) gone for six points.
Another one that comes to mind is when he overthrew Noah Cain, who was wide open out of the backfield, on a play where Ball State had a hands to the face penalty against Clifford. In Clifford’s defense, he had a defender in his face that he had to throw over, but with how wide open Cain was, you would still like to see Clifford complete that pass.
Clifford did have a few good throws Saturday, too. One being a nice pass that he dropped in to Keyvon Lee on a wheel route out of the backfield, another being a completion to Cam Sullivan-Brown over the middle, where Clifford went through his progressions, drove the ball well, and kept it away from the defender.
Clifford finished with a 72.4% completion percentage on the day, a number that could have been even higher, had he been a little more accurate. Clifford will need to connect on a few more throws going forward for this Penn State Football team to be successful.
