
Penn State Football commemorates the 20 Year Anniversary of 9/11
Penn State Football’s home opener against Ball State falls on the 20 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. To honor those affected, the the university will sound the bell at Old Main at the times of the attacks. The following is from Penn State News:
"The Old Main chimes will ring at: 8:46 a.m. for American Airlines Flight 11 that was crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. 9:03 a.m. for United Airlines Flight 175 that was crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center in New York. 9:37 a.m. for American Airlines Flight 77 that was crashed into the western façade of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. 10:03 a.m. for United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania."
Penn State will have a moment of silence prior to the game, as well as have a special halftime show, in remembrance of that tragic day.
Lastly, Penn State has dedicated a chair, which will remain empty for the entire season, to prisoners of war/missing in action service members. The chair is located in the upper deck of the south endzone.
