Penn State Football commit of the week: Drew Allar Breaks TD Record
While Penn State Football came away with a huge victory on Saturday, with a 16-10 win over Wisconsin, their commits had a big weekend as well.
Penn State Football Running back commit Nicholas Singleton broke the Berks County (Pa) touchdown record on Friday, recording his 80th career touchdown, but he was far from the only future Nittany Lion to have a big weekend.
Wide receiver commit Tyler Johnson showed his versatility, taking a kickoff back 89 yards for a touchdown, picking off a pass a returning it for a 100-yard score and scoring on a 38-yard rush.
While these are awesome feats, our commit of the week is quarterback Drew Allar.
Why Drew Allar is Penn State Football’s commit of the week
The 4-star quarterback had one of the best games of his career, completing 32 of 43 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns. He added another 73 yards on the ground. During the game, Allar broke the Medina County (Oh) record for career passing touchdowns, with 57.
According to P.J. Ziegler of Fox8, the record had stood for 26 years.
Allar and his Medina Battling Bees would go on to beat Wadsworth 35-0 and improve to 3-0 on the season. Max Preps now ranks Medina as the No. 11 high school football team in Ohio, thanks in large part to their quarterback.
What makes Allar’s performance so noteworthy for Penn State fans was his high completion percentage. That had been one of the main knocks on Allar as a passer, but he did hit on 74% of his passes on Friday night.
The Nittany Lions are hoping that the star quarterback continues his successful senior season before signing with Penn State Football in December and enrolling in January.
Allar is rated as the No. 7 quarterback in the country and No. 92 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. If he does in fact sign, he would be the highest rated quarterback to sign with James Franklin and the highest for Penn State since Christian Hackenberg in 2013.
