College Gameday analyst, and former Heisman Trophy winner with the Michigan Wolverines, Desmond Howard, had some lofty praise for this Penn State Football team Saturday morning.

During the show for Week 0, the ESPN College GameDay analysts were each giving a “sleeper team that could crack the top five.” Desmond Howard went with none other than Penn State Football.

Howard stated that he loved what this Nittany Lions offense was capable of. His reasoning started with Jahan Dotson, and ended with Sean Clifford.

It should be no surprise to Penn State Football fans that Dotson was mentioned, but Clifford being a reason might have raised some eyebrows.

He said he realized Clifford had a rough start to the season last year, but he bounced back and played well down the final stretch of the season. Howard seemed to have more than enough confidence in the Penn State quarterback.

It might ease the mind of Penn State Football fans that someone who has “been there, done that” on the football field has confidence in Clifford. On top of winning the Heisman Trophy, Howard also won Super Bowl XXXI Most Valuable Player with the Green Bay Packers.

Having someone who played football at the Division 1 level, as well as 11 seasons in the NFL, having confidence in Clifford, should hold more weight than a bunch of fans who never played at a high level, tweeting out negative things about Clifford from their couch.

Obviously, at the end of the day, Clifford and this team need to go out and prove it on the field, but having a former Michigan player think so highly this Penn State Football team is a good start.
