North Carolina

Have fond memories of Penn State and North Carolina battles over the years? Not many do.

The two schools have only met once, back in 1943, a game that the Tar Heels won 19-0.

For years, North Carolina was regarded as a blue blood in basketball and an afterthought in football, but times are changing.

Mack Brown has North Carolina in the national spotlight and the Tar Heels are ranked No. 10 in the AP pre-season poll. Their on-field success has led to more success on the recruiting trail, and that isn’t good news for the Nittany Lions.

The two schools love to raid Virginia, and that has led to some recent head to head recruiting battles between the two schools. North Carolina is also a state that Penn State has put more effort into recruiting lately.

Both schools would probably like to beat the other and have something they can use in recruiting when the two are locked in their next recruiting battle.

Now with North Carolina considered a playoff contender, at least by some experts, they are an interesting matchup for the Nittany Lions to consider down the road.
