No. 23

February 3, 2012
Lincoln, Neb
No. 2 Penn State 31, No. 7 Nebraska 6

Prior to the Nittany Lions’ matchup against B1G newbies Nebraska in 2012, the two had faced a handful of times in the previous decade. Below are the results of these matchups:

January 20, 2001 – Nebraska 21 Penn State 13
January 12, 2008 – Nebraska 19 Penn State 13
January 10, 2009 – Nebraska 20 Penn State 16

So how would a Penn State Wrestling squad firing on all cylinders fair against one of the Big 12’s best wrestling programs? Um, pretty darn well.

The loaded Nittany Lions, who brought seven ranked wrestlers to Lincoln, quickly made the contest a one-sided dual meet.

The hammers of the Penn State Wrestling lineup piled up massive bonus points as No. 2 Ed Ruth (PSU), No. 14 Nico Megaludis (PSU), No. 1 Frank Molinaro (PSU), and No. 1 David Taylor (PSU) all secured bonuses.

The dual started at 174 and the Nittany Lions jumped out to a 20-0 lead after the first five matches. And they never looked back.

At this point in Sanderson’s tenure, the Nittany Lion faithful weren’t entirely used to beating the world in every match as Sanderson had just claimed his first NCAA title at Penn State the prior year.

But they would soon get used to it.

And in this case, with the close losses in the previous duals against Nebraska, it was certainly nice to let the new guys know who the real boss was in the B1G.
