5. Kalen King

No freshman garnered more hype during Spring camp than cornerback Kalen King.

King went off in the open scrimmage back in April, intercepting two passes and collecting a sack. That big performance put the true freshman on every Penn State Football fan’s radar.

King has the talent, but he’s behind a handful of very good and experienced corners. Tariq Castro-Fields and Joey Porter Jr. will start, and the two transfers, A.J. Lytton and Johnny Dixon figure to play a lot. Marquis Wilson is playing both offense and defense, so it’s unclear how much he will factor in at the corner position.

Unless there’s some serious injury issues, it’s unlikely that King will break into a starting role this season. With that said, he is extremely talented and the defensive staff will try to get him on the field as much as possible.

He may just start off as a special teamer, but King’s talent will get him on the field in some capacity in 2021.
