Former Penn State Basketball standout Lamar Stevens continues to make his presence felt for the Cavaliers, this time during the NBA Summer League

Lamar Stevens was named to the Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League roster and so far, the former Penn State Basketball standout has not disappointed.

While Cleveland is only 1-3, records aren’t nearly as important in the NBA’s Summer League as player development.  Summer League rosters are made up of mostly first or second year players, which a good amount coming from the recent 2021 NBA Draft and unsigned rookie free agents.

Stevens, who was one of those unsigned rookie free agents this time last year, is now fresh off sigining a non-guaranteed three year deal with the Cavs with a team option for a fourth.  Stevens averaged 4.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and approximately a half a steak, block and assist a game in the regular season.

But on this Summer League team, Stevens is the ‘seasoned vet’ having played a year in the NBA and he’s showing what a difference that can make.  Stevens averaged 14 points and eight rebounds in his first two summer league games and he was just getting started.

Saturday night, on national television of course, Lamar made NBA twitter heads turn with this nasty dunk right over the Detriot Pistions’ forward Seko Doumbouya.

Even color analyst Fran Fraschilla took notice of the impressive dunk show put on by Stevens, who  finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.  Stevens was an efficient 9 for 16 from the field but both three point shooting (1-3 from beyond) and free throw shooting (2-4) will need to improve.

Stevens opened the second half with a shot familiar to all who watched the Nittany Lions’ all-time second leading scorer at the BJC with an end of the shot clock, turn-around, fade-away jumper over two defenders.
