Penn State Football’s Odafe Oweh turning heads at Ravens camp
Former Penn State Football edge rusher Odafe Oweh is already impressing his Baltimore Ravens teammates during training camp this summer.
Odafe Oweh surged up draft boards across the league this spring because of his athleticism and upside that talent evaluators across the NFL hoped they could harness inside their building, and through the first few weeks of Baltimore Ravens training camp, Oweh hasn’t disappointed.
Oweh, chosen by the Ravens No. 31 overall this spring, is already catching the attention of his teammates across the line of scrimmage.
"“Odafe is possibly the fastest player on the football field,” Ravens offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva told reporters recently. “And he will be, probably the fastest in any games he plays. His speed is definitely an asset.“It’s crazy to see somebody come off the edge that quickly. It’s not … It’s not like he ran the 40 in whatever he did and was slower here. He has the speed. He just has to put it all together. I’m his number one fan.”"
During Penn State Football’s pro day this spring, Oweh ran the 40-yard dash in a blazing 4.36 seconds, and it is evident that at least through practices this summer, that speed is translating to football speed.
In three seasons as a key member of the Nittany Lions‘ front-seven, Oweh produced seven sacks, 63 total tackles, and 13.5 tackles for loss. Baltimore hopes that he can be a productive and disruptive edge rusher immediately.
Ravens veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell has certainly taken notice of his fellow pass-rusher.
“Infinite potential,” Campbell said of Oweh during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “His ability to be an athlete and go out there and make plays is quite spectacular.”
