What can Penn State Football expect from their team this season? What are some of the big questions facing the team as training camp begins?

After a lackluster 2020 season for Penn State Football, the Nittany Lions are hoping for a big rebound this year.

There are some question marks surrounding the program, and for good reason.

Penn State Football returns a lot of pieces who played a lot of football last season, along with bringing in a lot of talent via the transfer portal over the offseason.

With a number of games on the Lions’ schedule that are a coin flip at this point, the answers to many of these questions could be the difference between 7-5 or 11-1.

Here’s a look at 10 burning questions facing Penn State Football as camp begins:

10. How Will The Defensive Line Look?

There are many questions along the defensive front for Penn State Football entering the 2021 campaign.

The first being; who starts opposite of Temple transfer Arnold Ebiketie at defensive end?

With Adisa Isaac potentially missing the entire season with an injury, that job is likely to go to either Nick Tarburton or Zuriah Fisher. Additionally at the defensive end spot, how much time, if any at all, does Jesse Luketa see at defensive end? James Franklin hinted over the offseason that Luketa could play a hybrid role between defensive and and linebacker.

Moving to the interior of the defensive line, where depth is a little less of a concern for Penn State Football head coach James Franklin.

PJ Mustipher is likely to be one of the two starters at that spot, but who is the other? Will it be Hakeem Beamon, Fred Hansard, or Duke transfer Derrick Tangelo? Beamon could be the favorite to start, but does the staff try to move him out to defensive end due to the lack of depth there? Hansard has been around the program for a long time, while Tangelo brings a lot of meaningful snaps against Power 5 competition in the ACC.
