Overall Grade

James Franklin’s offseason was one of the best, if not the best, during his tenure in Happy Valley.

Coming off of a 4-5 season, in which Franklin looked disinterested at times, there was definitely reason to be concerned about the future of the program. Franklin put all those concerns to bed with how he operated in every phase of this offseason.

If there was one more thing that could be asked for, it would have been another quarterback to help stabilize the depth at the position. It’s hard not to think about that if something was to happen to Clifford- underperformance or injury- all the other work this offseason could be irrelevant. The hope is that situation never presents itself.

Despite this, it’s hard to ignore the impact the returning players, transfers and Yurcich’s offense could have on this season. It’s also hard to ignore the impact the 2022 recruiting could have on future seasons.
