Former Penn State Football tight end Adam Breneman was placed on administrative leave by Arizona State
Former five star recruit for the Nittany Lions Adam Breneman is finding himself in hot water with the NCAA.
News that the Arizona State Tight End Coach was placed on administrative leave on July 16 broke over the weekend.
Breneman was one of at least 10 coaches/staffers that were mentioned into the dossier of the NCAA investigation into Arizona State’s football program.
The Camp Hill, PA native was rated as the top tight end in the nation and in his true freshman year (2014), he finished with 15 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns. He was forced to redshirt the next year (2014) due to a knee injury and unfortunately never really recovered, playing only a little through injuries throughout the 2015 season. He then transferred to UMass as a grad transfer and set the world on fire, leading the nation in receptions by a tight end in 2016 and was considered one of the top tight end prospects in the 2018 NFL draft.
Just a month before the 2018 draft, however, he surprised the football world by announcing his retirement due to that same knee injury. He was hired by former NFL great Herm Edwards in 2020 as a Sun Devil offensive assistant and was named a ’30 under 30 for 2020′ by 247Sports, recognizing him as a top young coach in the game.
Allegations include Breneman paying almost $600 for a recruit to visit Tempe with receipts from Adam’s personal Gmail account. Many of the recruits listed in the dossier did not end up attending Arizona State, which could make it easier for the NCAA to ‘find the truth.’ Head Coach Herm Edwards hasn’t addressed the topic yet but it’s likely to be brought up at the Sun Devil media day tomorrow.
