Penn State football commit Zane Durant (DT)

Independence Day started with a pleasant surprise, as 4-star defensive tackle Zane Durant committed to Penn State.

The Orlando native seemed like a Miami lean, but Penn State ace Florida recruiter Ja’Juan Seider, along with defensive line coach John Scott Jr, were able to turn the tide in Durant’s recruitment.

This was a big win for the Nittany Lions considering they only took one defensive tackle in the 2021 class in JUCO 3-star Jordan van den Berg.

Durant is a bit undersized for a defensive tackle, listed at 6-foot-1 and 251 pounds, so he will likely draw comparisons to another undersized tackle who had a fine career for Penn State, Kevin Givens.

If Franklin and Scott Jr. can get Givens-like production from Durant, they would be thrilled.

It can be difficult to hold onto a commit that is so far from the school, but Seider has been keen on keeping Florida guys committed.
