Penn State’s Allen Robinson about to be Bears QB Justin Fields’ best friend
Allen Robinson is one of the Nittany Lions’ all-time great wide receivers and could make a huge impact on Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields
Former Penn State Football wide receiver Allen Robinson is one of the NFL’s premier players at the position, and reliable as they come, despite dealing with shoddy quarterback play for most of his career.
However, after the Chicago Bears traded up to the No. 11 overall pick in this spring’s NFL Draft, Robinson just might have the chance to finally play with an emerging young talent; former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.
It remains to be seen just how long the Bears will stick with Andy Dalton at quarterback, but Robinson has the chance to be Fields’ favorite target — and a key component in his development as an NFL passer, once he takes the field.
According to Sports Info Solutions, Robinson saw the most targets last season without dropping a pass:
Obviously, having reliable hands is key to becoming the favorite target of a young quarterback, and Robinson being a security blanket for Fields — or Dalton, could give the Bears’ offense the chance to level-up in 2021.
last season, Robinson caught 102 of his 150 targets, as Bears quarterbacks produced a 90.1 passer rating when targeting him.
Playing under the franchise tag, Robinson has plenty of motivation to have a big year, in addition to helping Shepard a young quarterback’s development.
“Fields is doing very well,” a Bears team source tells FanSided. “He has a long way to go, but you can tell he wants to be great. He works extremely hard and is very coachable, which is critical.”
If Fields is coachable, and can quickly build a connection with Robinson, he might quickly develop into a top passer.
