Drew Shelton is one of Penn State Football’s highest-rated commits, and Wednesday he reaffirmed his commitment to the Nittany Lions

Penn State Football received some great news on Wednesday afternoon when 4-star commit Drew Shelton shut down his recruitment.

Rated as the 15th best offensive tackle in the country, Shelton was a hot commodity before his commitment to Penn State back in September.

Shelton took to Twitter to announce the decision.

Things quieted down until Shelton decided to leave Downingtown, Pa and head to IMG in Florida to finish out his high school career. Once there, Southern schools like Florida and Georgia began to notice the talented offensive lineman.

He took an official to Florida earlier this month, but Penn State was able to get him on campus for an official the following week. Shelton then returned to Happy Valley this past weekend to meet with the other commits, who were all taking their official visit.

Shelton is a key member of Penn State’s 2022 class, which ranks eighth nationally. He is the highest rated offensive lineman in the class and is more important to the staff now that 2021 signee Nate Bruce is no longer with the program.

Shelton joins Drew Allar, Beau Pribula, Kaden Saunders, Ken Talley, Tyrece Mills, Jerry Cross and Maleek McNeil as Penn State commits who have fully shutdown their recruitment.

The “107% locked in” phrase is not something we’ve seen from past Penn State recruiting classes and there hasn’t been many commits who publicly announced they won’t listen to other schools in the past either.

James Franklin and his staff are hoping that this is the start of a very successful week on the recruiting trail for them. Multiple Penn State targets, including, Keon Wylie, Kaleb Artis and Tyrese Fearbry are planning on announcing their commitment this weekend.

Penn State’s 2022 class currently has 12 commits and is second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
