Penn State Basketball has the chance to make an early statement in head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s career, hosting Miami in the B1G-ACC Challenge.

Per Jon Rothstein, Penn State Basketball will host Miami (Florida) in the Big 10 – ACC Challenge this upcoming season.

Perhaps surprising some, Penn State Basketball actually has a winning record in the Challenge, at 11-9 overall and have won their last three games.  That .550 winning percentage is actually tied for the best in the conference (Purdue is also 11-9).

Last year, Penn State Basketball blew out #15 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, 75-55.  Penn State Basketball defeated Wake Forest in 2019 76-54 in their last home game in the Big 10 – ACC Challenge in front of 6,746 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Big Ten has won the last two iterations of this conference.  The ACC won the first 10 challenged through 2008 before the Big Ten won five of the next seven and drew the other two.  The ACC currently leads 12-7-3 overall.

This match-up has even more intrigue as one of Micah Shrewsberry’s biggest coaching staff hire was Adam Fisher, who had coached at Miami (Florida) after starting with Pat Chambers at Boston University and Penn State.  The Jamison, Pennsylvania native helped the Hurricanes record four-straight 20 win seasons from 2014-2018.

The Miami Hurricanes finished 13th in the Atlantic Coast Conference last year (10-17, 4-15 overall).  They defeated Pittsburgh in the first round of the ACC Tournament and upset Clemson before losing to the eventual champions Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals and did not qualify for either the NCAA or NIT Tournament.
