Things could be interesting? But probably not – No. 4

174

2021 Top 4
1. Carter Starocci (Fr.) Penn State
2. Michael Kemerer (Sr.) Iowa
3. Mikey Labriola (Jr.) Nebraska
4. Bernie Truax (So.) Cal Poly

Would you look at that? A guy who writes for Penn State Wrestling has all four 2021 NCAA Champions in his “Strong..to quite strong” group of weight classes for the 2021-2022 season.

And they all just so happen to wrestle for Penn State.

Shocking, right?

Nope. I’ll admit it. I’m a full on homer.

And how can I not be considering what Penn State Wrestling has accomplished under Cael Sanderson in the past decade?

And if you’ve watched enough college wrestling, it’s not hard to see how special Carter Starocci is. The sky is the absolute limit for him and he’s not shy to admit it.

Assuming the 2021-2022 season is going to be a full season, Starocci will certainly be battle tested by the end. Between Iowa’s Michael Kemerer, Nebraska’s Mikey Labriola, Michigan’s Logan Massa, and Ohio State’s Kaleb Romero, the B1G is pretty deep at 174.

But as the title suggests, things could still be interesting in this weight class throughout the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if both Starocci and Kemerer find themselves on the wrong end of a tough match at some point in the season. Maybe even a couple.

And once the dust settles at the end of the season, my money is on these two toeing the line once again in the finals.

Obviously with Starocci’s hand being raised once again at the end. I mean I’m not that dumb.

Speaking of dust settling, the next group of weight classes is the virtual wild west when it comes to looking at them.
