Penn State Wrestling recruiting: Levi Haines coming to Happy Valley
By Chris Snyder
Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions Wrestling Team lands another top recruit.
Biglerville, PA native and recent Pennsylvania state wrestling state champion Levi Haines has committed his collegiate career to Penn State Wrestling.
Currently a junior in high school, Haines is the first Penn State commit in the 2022 class. This comes on the heels of Cael Sanderson landing the top 2021 recruiting class which included Shayne Van Ness, Gary Steen, and Alex Facundo.
Levi won his first Pennsylvania state wrestling title this past year and finished runner-up both his freshman and sophomore seasons. But how does he stack up with the wrestling talent from around the country?
Haines is currently the No. 8 ranked grappler at 152 and he’s starting to make some noise both on the national and world stage. Levi took down three straight talented cadet wrestlers in the Wisconsin Dells to snag a spot in the 2021 Cadet World Team for Team USA.
So where does Haines expect to slot in the Nittany Lions’ talented wrestling room? Most people have him somewhere between 157 and 165, however an eventual jump to 174 might not be out of the question as Levi has recently bumped up several weight classes.
And not only is it an advantage to have a living legend coach the team, it also doesn’t hurt to have world class training centers located in Happy Valley. The M2 Training Center, run by former Nittany Lion David Taylor, is where Levi Haines is a member and has trained for many years.
Let’s keep the train rollin’!
