Former Penn State Football defensive end Shane Simmons announced he will be transferring to Marshall

Penn State Football defensive end Shane Simmons announced he will be transferring to Marshall and spending his last season with the Herd.

Simmons will be reuniting with new Marshall head coach former Charles Huff who was a special teams coordinator and running backs coach with Penn State Football.

It seems Huff played a big role in why the former Nittany Lion chose the herd. Simmons’ mother tweeted Tuesday that it is only right her sons college football journey started with coach Huff and finishes with him, while Simmons tweeted out “let’s run it back”.

Simmons had originally said he was retiring from football after graduating from Penn Stat,e and starting the next chapter of his life in business, but,  ultimately decided he wanted to give it one more shot and entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason.

The former DeMatha High standout came to Happy Valley a highly touted five star recruit but never seemed to find his footing and ultimately fell short of expectations that were put on him.

Despite that, he pieced together a nice career tallying 59 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He ended his Penn State Football career on a high note, when he posted the best individual performance of his career on Senior Day with one and a half sacks and two tackles for loss in the win over Michigan State.

Simmons will get a chance to build on that with the Herd who went 7-3 last season, but were undefeated at 7-0 at one point. Marshall ultimately lost the conference championship game to UAB, but should once again be a force in 2021 in Conference USA,
