Penn State Football has landed a commitment from 3-star offensive lineman Maleek McNeil.

McNeil announced his decision on Saturday via Twitter.

McNeil is the ninth member of Penn State’s 2022 class and is the second offensive line commit, alongside Drew Shelton. He is the first commit since Drew Allar back at the beginning of March, ending an almost two month draught.

He is a massive 6 foot 8, 340 pounds, which would make him the largest player on Penn State’s roster.

The Bronx native attends The Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA. McNeil has been on Penn State’s radar for a while, but did not receive an offer until Feb. 15.

The other main competition was Rutgers and Boston College, but his offer list includes Auburn, Pitt and Duke as well.

It will be interesting to see how McNeil does under the mentorship of Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. McNeil is listed as the 66th best offensive tackle in the country, so the recruiting services view him as a project.

With his size, he no doubt has a high ceiling as an offensive tackle, the question will be if he gets there or not.

Trautwein was well known for turning lowly rated offensive linemen at Boston College into All-ACC players and even a first round draft pick.

Penn State’s 2022 class now rises three spots from the No. 9 rated class in the 247 Sports rankings to No. 6 with the addition on McNeil.

The class continues to be a strong point for James Franklin and his staff, especially on offense. Eight of the nine commits are listed on the offensive side of the ball, although Mehki Flowers may be a safety at the next level.

Look for the Nittany Lions to try to add two more offensive linemen in this class.
