Penn State Football tight end Pat Freiermuth was drafted Friday night and is headed to (the Pittsburgh Steelers, after being chosen in the second-round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

It was considered a long shot that Freiermuth would be a first round pick on Thursday night, but expected that he would land in rounds two or three, and sure enough he did. The (team name) are getting an all around playmaker at the tight end position who is also a great blocker who is not afraid to do the dirty work.

Florida tight end Kyle Pitts was far and away the best tight end in this class, but he is more of a hybrid, slot wideout, where the former Penn State Football standout is your more traditional tight end who can line up with his hand in the dirt or flex out wide and be a playmaker in space.

His third season in Happy Valley was cut short due to a shoulder injury, however showed his pass catching prowess in his time in blue and white catching 92 passes for 1,185 yards and 16 touchdowns. He owns the record for career touchdown receptions by a tight end, passing mike Gisecki who he will see on Sundays as a member of the Miami Dolphins.

"“Big, athletic tight end with the potential to be a combo player at the position, helping as a run blocker and pass catcher,” Lance Zierlein of NFL.com said. “Freiermuth needs to tighten up his technique as a run blocker but his foot quickness and agility led to some splashy recoveries and block finishes that foreshadow his future potential. He’s athletic and has good build-up speed down the seam to attack the second level.”"

Freiermuth was rehabbing from shoulder surgery and was limited in what he could do at Penn State Football’s pro day, so he did not run a 40 or participate in the bench press, however it did not hinder his draft stock. Teams and scouts know what they are getting in this draft’s clear cut second tight end.

The Nittany Lions are making a case to be ‘Tight End U’ as they now have Jesse James, Mike Gisecki and Pat Freiermuth in the NFL.
