Penn State Football’s decision to have a second open practice turned out to be a good one, especially on the recruiting front.

Although the practice was originally only opened to Penn State seniors, it was later decided to allow the public in.

Allowing the public in meant one thing; recruits.

Recruits cannot officially visit and meet with the Penn State Football coaching staff until the start of June, but if they were able to get their hands on a few of the limited, free tickets for the practice, that’s fair game.

From looking at Twitter, you can see that there were multiple top Penn State Football targets in attendance. Of course, this list wasn’t as long as it would normally be for the Blue and White Game, but there were some big names in that group.

That group includes 2022 targets, 4-star running back Nicholas Singleton, 4-star defensive back Jaeden Gould and 2023 5-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier.

Another notable 2022 target, 4-star defensive end Tyreese Fearbry visited Beaver Stadium with large contingent of Pittsburgh area high school players.

For how much heat Penn State took for how the first Blue/White scrimmage was handled, they made up for that on Friday night.

It was nice to see seniors get one last opportunity in Beaver Stadium. It was also wise to open it up to the public at the last minute.

Last week, when most schools had their spring game, the majority were open to the public, meaning recruits were able to attend. Penn State risked falling behind in a sense, so it was good to see them fix that mistake.

Although an event like the scrimmage on Friday won’t likely win over a recruit, it can never hurt to get them on campus and take in the sights and sounds.

This was the first time recruits were in Beaver Stadium for a game-like atmosphere since the 2019 season finale against Rutgers, about 17 months ago.
