Penn State Basketball vs Pitt? Rivals battle for LSU Hoops Transfer
By Evan Smith
It’s a Keystone State battle for LSU guard Aundre Hyatt between Penn State Basketball and Pitt, according to Andrew Slater of The Athletic.
Slater reported that Hyatt met with with the Penn State Basketball coaching staff via Zoom Monday and will meet with University of Pittsburgh Tuesday.
Hyatt, the six-foot-six inch guard, helped LSU make their surprising NCAA Tournament run, defeating Saint Bonaventure in the “second round” before falling to #1 seed Michigan.
LSU finished 19-10, 11-6 (3rd place) in the Southeastern Conference.
The native of the Bronx redshirtted his first year for LSU before averaging 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in the past season, averaging approximately 16 minutes of action. He shot 44.7% from the floor but just 28.6% from three and a respectable 73.7% from the charity stripe.
"“I trust him,” LSU coach Will Wade said of Hyatt, following LSU’s NCAA tournament win. “He’s steady. You know where he’s going to be, and this is why as a coach you stick with guys. We went away from him a little bit there in the middle of the year, but he earned that starting spot.”"
While Hyatt isn’t technically a forward or center, at his size, he’d still add some decent size to the undersized 2021-2022 Nittany Lions squad.
Bringing NCAA Tournament experience will only add to his value in the Transfer Portal.
It’s going to be Micah Shrewsberry’s first big test on the recruiting trail as Penn State Basketball coach, against a bitter rival, in Pitt for Hyatt’s services.
