A former four-star recruit, Penn State Football DE Shane Simmons announced Monday he would be entering the transfer portal ahead of his fifth-year of eligibility.

Penn State Football defensive end Shane Simmons announced Monday he is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Simmons, who will graduate from Penn State this spring, will take advantage of the NCAA’s additional year of eligbility due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and has decided to continue his football career.

Since arriving in Happy Valley, Simmons played in games throughout the past four seasons for the Nittany Lions.  As a freshman in 2017, Simmonds produced 15 tackles, including eight solo tackles, and one sack.  His highest tackle season was his junior year (2019), where he tallied 19 tackles (7 solo).

In the Coronavirus-shorted 2020 season, Simmons produced 16 tackles (five solo), but produced a career-high three sacks.

The Laurel, Maryland native is still aiming to play in the National Footbal League, and with that goal in mind decided transferring for his fifth season would best meet those goals.

"“I thought I was finished with football and ready for the business world,” Simmons tweeted. “But, over the past few months I’ve done a lot of soul searching and realized that my love and passion for football is still there and my ultimate dream is still to play in the NFL.”"

As Simmons stated, it was expected his football career would come to a close.

He wasn’t included in our depth chart review and not really talked about as a transfer target due to his transition to the business world.
