Consulting the VBR Crystal Ball on where Penn State Basketball center John Harrar will land from the NCAA transfer portal

Penn State Basketball started this offseason with seven players in the transfer portal, and now have just one left … starting center John Harrar.

The 2021 offseason has been hectic for the Nittany Lions, starting with hiring a new head coach (Micah Shrewsberry), seeing their interim head coach get a new head coaching gig (Jim Ferry at UMBC), four players entering the transfer portal and leaving and two more players entering the transfer portal but coming back.

While we’ll certainly add a mix of 2021 late signees and transfer portal players, the biggest unknown outstanding is the fate of John Harrar.  John averaged 8.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 54.9% from the field.  He was a virtual double double machine towards the end of the season and shot very well for a center from the free throw stripe (68.9%).

argfdjklfsda. I know this isn’t what anyone wants to hear.

It’s still possible he could return, as he hasn’t ruled out spending his graduate year back in Happy Valley.

But the truth is, Harrar loved Pat Chambers and along with Jamari Wheeler and Myreon Jones, likely felt betrayed by the way the athletic department handled that situation.  Especially if EJ Liddell goes pro, the Buckeyes will have an opening for Harrar to start immediately.  Imagine having two fifth year players book ending your starting line-up (PG – Wheeler and C – Harrar) already full of returning players from a top 10 team.
