Penn State Basketball’s Myreon Jones transfers to Florida
By Evan Smith
Former Penn State Basketball guard Myreon Jones per his twitter announced he has signed with the Florida Gators.
Mr. “Midnight Domino” is heading back down south to play for the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Florida finished 15-10 last year, 9-7 in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), finishing fifth in the conference.
Almost a week ago, Jones announced the final four schools (Mississippi, Arkansas, LSU and Florida) and it seems Arkansas was in the lead. Head Coach of the Gators Mike White clearly made up a lot of ground, culminating in today’s announcement on Myreon Jones’ twitter.
Myreon Jones was named to the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team this year for the second time and is known for his sharpshooting. He averaged 15.3 points per game this past year to go along with 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Jones shot 39.5% from three, which has to be what enticed the Gators to Myreon Jones.
The Mobile, Alabama natice shot 41.4% from the field and started 48 games in his time in Happy Valley, playing 80 games in his career.
Myreon Jones wasn’t too likely to return, but this is a huge loss for new Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry. Jones was definitely the biggest offensive fireplug for the 2020-2021 iteration of the Nittany Lions and leaves quite a hole on the offensive side of the floor. He now must turn his strongest recruiting efforts to keep Seth Lundy and big man John Harrar to return to the 2021-2022 team.
