Important Question No. 2

Does Nick Lee go up in weight to prepare for the Olympics?

“Hey Chris, how can we make this article more confusing?”

And here I thought I asked the tough questions. Great question imaginary reader in my head!

Below are the official Olympic weight classes for the freestyle discipline:
-57 kg
-65 kg
-74 kg
-86 kg
-97 kg
-125 kg

Without Googling the weight conversion, does anyone know where Lee would potentially slot?

You’re right! It is the 65 kg weight class, as this converts to 143 lbs.

And does anyone know who the current No. 1 seed is at the 65 kg class for Team USA? It says here it’s some guy named Zain Retherford. Hmm. Sounds familiar.

Moving on.

The reason why this is so important is because Lee might want to make the decision to get ready, and more importantly stronger, for his post-PSU wrestling career. As I’ve noted in previous articles, you can gain weight by either eating pretzels dipped in Crisco or you can gain weight by eating right, sleeping right, and hitting the weight room hard.

If Nick Lee does want to get stronger for an Olympic run then next year would be the year to do it. So does he bump up to 149 for next season?

If so, then what does PSU do with the Bartlett/Van Ness duo?

My knee-jerk reaction is Bartlett cuts weight and drops down to 141 and Van Ness redshirts. But I’m paid exactly $0 by Penn State to make any decisions. Which is good for them.
