Penn State Football linebacker Jayson Oweh has been surging up NFL Draft boards due to his athleticism being off the charts, and he certainly reinforced that optimism during the program’s pro day workout Thursday.

“He’s a freak,” an NFL scout tells me following Oweh’s workout.

In front of an audience of representatives from 31 of 32 teams, including NY Giants head coach Joe Judge and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, Oweh had the kind of performance that will help push his NFL Draft stock even higher.

Oweh ran the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds, the short-shuttle in 4.21 seconds, produced a 134-inch broad jump, and a 39.5 inch vertical leap.

Here are Jayson Oweh’s full results from Penn State Football pro day:

40-yard dash: 4.36 seconds

Short-shuttle: 4.21 seconds

3-Cone drill: 6.83 seconds

Benchpress reps: 21

Vertical leap: 39.5 inches

Oweh’s broad jump was two inches further than Isaiah Simmons’ at the 2020 NFL Combine, and Simmons went on to become the No. 8 overall pick of the Arizona Cardinals last spring, underscoring the value teams place in these testing results.

While there is some concern about the fact that Oweh produced just seven sacks during his two seasons at Penn State, without a single sack in 2020, the belief among some scouts is that his upside is his athleticism waiting to be harnessed in their system and is hard to ignore.

"“First of all, no concern at all about ‘why no sacks,” Penn State Football defensive coordinator Brent Pry said during BTN’s broadcast of the pro day. “rushability is very very good.  Development is going to come, the biggest thing for Jayson this past season was his work ethic, making tremendous strides and faught his tail off at practice every day.  He’s only going to get better and better.”"
