By Chris Snyder
Alright, PSU Wrestling fans, the finals of the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships are finally here!
The evening starts out at the 133 match and ends with the 125 match.
Saturday’s finals couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for PSU Wrestling as Roman Bravo Young took home an individual National Championship.
Here’s how he did it:
133
No. 2 Roman Bravo-Young (PSU) vs. No. 1 Daton Fix (OKST)
Action kicks off in the opening period and both wrestlers started off aggressive in looking for some attacks.
Fix took a shot on RBY near the boundary line however it didn’t lead to anything and both guys went out of bounds.
After the restart Fix tried to get under hooks on Roman but he continued to fight off the attacks and defended them well.
The 1st period ended with the score tied (0-0).
RBY began the 2nd period on top position and Fix showed his strength in trying to fight out for the escape.
RBY did an excellent job in fending Fix off and he used multiple mat returns to keep him on the mat while building up his riding time to over a minute.
Fix attempted to roll out and RBY almost had him with his back to the mat, however Fix worked himself back to his stomach.
RBY ended up riding Fix out for the entire 2nd period.
Starting on bottom for the 3rd period, RBY was looking for a quick escape. And that’s just what he did in earning the escape (1-0).
Roman tried to take a deep shot and almost landed it but both wrestlers ended up in a stalemate after the flurry.
RBY was slapped with his 2nd stall warning and the match was tied (1-1).
Then he got slapped with another stall warning (1-2)!! What the heck?
The match then went into sudden victory (2-2) due to the riding time point for RBY.
And with 20 seconds left in sudden victory RBY used his lightning quick reflexes and lands the takedown and takes home the title at 133!!!!!!
THAT’S WHAT i’M TALKING ABOUT!!
With the victory in sudden victory (4-2), Roman Bravo-Young takes home his 1st NCAA National Title.
What a start!
