Penn State Football Recruiting: 2022 By the Numbers
Quarterback: 2
Penn State Football already has their two quarterback commits in 4-stars Beau Pribula and Drew Allar. They need to take two considering, as of today, there will only be two other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for 2022.
Running back: 1-2
Penn State would like to take two running backs in this class after not taking one in 2021. There are currently five running backs on the roster, but John Lovett is here for only a year, and Noah Cain could go pro after 2021. Taking two is the right move.
Wide Receiver: 3
Penn State technically has three wide receiver commits in 4-stars Kaden Saunders, Anthony Ivey and Mehki Flowers. Flowers may be a safety at the next level though, so the Nittany Lions are continuing to recruit other receiver targets. If they land another, it’s more likely Flowers is moved to safety. If 2021 signee Lonnie White Jr. picks pro baseball this Summer, this number could move to four.
Tight End: 1-2
Penn State did have to 4-star tight end commits, but Holden Staes de-committed after tight ends coach Tyler Bowen left for the NFL. Jerry Cross remains in the fold for the Nittany Lions. Taking both Cross and Staes at the beginning was more of a luxury than a need. Penn State will likely ride with just Cross, unless room becomes available.
Offensive Line: 4
Penn State has a 4-star commit on the offensive line in Drew Shelton. After only taking two offensive linemen in 2021, Penn State is likely to go for four or more this time around. They have plenty of options left on their board, with at least three spots remaining.
