Running Back

Running Back: Noah Cain (SO) – John Lovett (RS SR) OR Keyvone Lee (FR) OR Devyn Ford (SO) OR Coziah Holmes (FR)

You will see a lot of the “OR” designation on the running backs as coach Ju’Juan Seider sorts through the crowded backfield.

Sophomore Noah Cain gets the nod as the lone starter because if healthy, and that’s a big if, he is the cream of the crop for the Nittany Lions. Franklin said he expects Cain to participate in the second half of spring practice as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in week 1 last season.

Baylor transfer John Lovett has been celebrated for his work ethic during winter workouts, and being the elder statesman of the group in his fifth season of college football, expect him to have a big impact. Seider called him explosive, and he is a good balance of the bruisers of Cain and Lee, and the speedsters of Holmes and Ford.

Lee broke out the second half of the season and showed good vision and patience while being  bruising north and south runner, spelling Ford who proved he is not yet ready to be an every down back.

Look for Seider to rotate them all season and try and find the hot hand, but regardless of who is in the game this is one of the best running back rooms in the country and the best in the Big Ten.
