133

No. 2 Roman Bravo-Young

Looking at the 133 bracket, RBY’s first hurdle will most likely occur in the quarter finals match, where he could be matched up against No. 7 Lucas Byrd of Illinois.

Byrd fell to Iowa’s Austin DeSanto 4-5 in a thrilling semi final in match in the B1G Wrestling Championships two weeks ago. Byrd then cruised his way to a 3rd place finish.

RBY and Byrd have never faced off in college and on any given day you can throw out seeding when it comes to wrestling. I’m expecting a tough match, but a Bravo-Young victory in the end.

Talk about tough, the next match and the semi final match in the 133 bracket would be against Virginia Tech’s No. 3 Korbin Myers. The redshirt senior is 8-0 on the season and claimed his first ACC title and his third conference title overall (previously won 2 in the EWL).

Somehow in his 147 career collegiate matches at 133, Myers has also never faced RBY. Of Korbin’s 8 victories on the season, 3 were against top 12 seeded wrestlers in the 133 bracket.

Again, this is going to be a really tough match. But I believe RBY has turned a corner this season and he takes down Myers in a narrow 1 point decision.

This leaves Oklahoma State’s Daton Fix in the 133 finals match. Fix is the reigning NCAA runner-up at 133 and he’s gone 44-2 in the 2019 and 2021 seasons as he did not wrestle in 2020.

Remember when I said I was being optimistic?

You’re gosh darn right I’m going to be optimistic here! RBY snags a late takedown in sudden victory and hoists his first ever NCAA Championship title in a match for the ages!!
