133

(1) Daton Fix (OKST) 9-0
(2) Roman Bravo-Young (PSU) 9-0
(3) Korbin Myers (VT) 8-0
(4) Austin DeSanto (IOWA) 7-1

Past Matchups

03/06/21 Bravo-Young dec. DeSanto, 5-2
03/07/20 Bravo-Young dec. DeSanto, 3-2
01/31/20 Bravo-Young inj. DeSanto
03/21/19 DeSanto dec. Bravo-Young, 7-2
03/09/19 DeSanto dec. Bravo-Young, 12-8
02/24/19 Fix dec. DeSanto, 2-0

This group also brings a plethora of NCAA experience to the proverbial wrestling table. In the 2019 NCAA’s Fix took home 2nd, DeSanto 5th, Bravo-Young 8th, and Myers finished in the round of 16 group.

Roman Bravo-Young was impressive in the recent B1G tournament as he took home his 1st B1G title. But is he on the same level as Daton Fix? Hopefully Penn State fans are about to find out.

Fix has been the definition of dominant this season in putting together a record of 9-0 which includes 4 falls, 2 tech falls, and 2 major decisions. For you math enthusiasts out there this means he earned bonus points in every single match except for one. And this was in the Big 12 finals against No. 11 seeded Anthony Madrigal where Fix cruised to the easy 6-1 decision.

Myers has been excellent on the season in taking the ACC title over No. 5 seeded Micky Phillippi in the finals. But he’s no where near the level of Fix*.

Something to watch with DeSanto later this week is how his right hand holds up. Austin appeared to injury the hand in his semi-final matchup against the Illini’s Lucas Byrd and it was visibly bothering him in the finals match against RBY.

Sleeper: (6) Matt Schmitt (MIZZ) 10-1

This pick has almost as much to do with the where Schmitt is in the 133 bracket as it does with his ability and experience.

Obviously he’s a talented grappler as he cruised through the MAC Championships to snag his first individual conference title. But I have my eye on his quarter of the bracket which includes No. 3 seed Korbin Myers and No. 14 seed Zach Price.

Price could also be considered a sleeper and he could potentially be up against Myers in a 2nd round match on Thursday night. Price already took down the 6th seeded Schmitt back on January 3rd, can he pull off another upset against Myers?

If so, it would mean a quarter-final rematch between Schmitt and Price, with the winner having the pleasure of losing to RBY.
