Lonnie White Jr. and Baseball

Thought the book was closed on the 2021 class? Not so fast.

One of the top recruits that Penn State Football signed in the 2021 class is 4-star wide receiver Lonnie White Jr. In addition to being a really good football player, White is also an excellent baseball player.

White is an outfielder for his high school Malvern Prep, a school that has produced multiple Major League players, including Ben Davis, who was drafted second overall in 1995. The prep school also produced former Nittany Lion Carl Nassib on the football field.

White has been projected as high as the middle of the first round in this Summer’s MLB draft. A mid-first round pick includes a signing bonus worth somewhere between $3-4 million.

It will be worth monitoring White’s progress on the baseball diamond this Spring, and early Summer and see if his performances push him even higher up the draft boards or not.

White and his family will have a tough decision to make. No one will blame a kid for taking a few million dollars without any risk, but Penn State would like to get their possible future No. 1 receiver on campus.

Freshman usually enroll in June, the MLB draft will be held in July this year.
