Micah Shrewsberry: From Jayson Tatum’s shooting coach to Penn State Basketball’s head man
By Evan Smith
Relationships matter to Shrewsberry …
Hughes, when asked what the one word he’d use to describe Shrewsberry, said “sentimental.”
Player relationships meant a lot to Micah, and likely was the ultimate draw back to the collegiate ranks after coaching in the NBA.
Shrewsberry’s sentimentality likely had a lot to do with when he chose to make the jump from assistant coach to head coaching, as it’s rumored he turned down offers from UMass and and Georgia State last month, patiently waiting for the right fit.
Perhaps he’ll enjoy the sentimentality of returning to Mackey, wearing the blue and white (or pink and black for the millionth straight road game)? One thing for sure is Mackey Arena fans will give him a nice round of applause pre-game … But, that won’t last once the ball is tipped.
