The Penn State Board of Trustees has scheduled several committee meetings this week, which could indicate a new full-time Penn State Basketball coach could be on the cusp of being hired
Could the Penn State Board of Trustees be meeting this week to finalize the contract of the next Penn State Basketball Coach?
The Board of Trustees announced special meetings of the Compensation Committee via conference call tomorrow (Monday March 15th) at 6:00 and Tuesday through Friday at 5:00 pm. Each daily meeting has a public session one half hour after the private first half hour, called their “executive session.”
The public portion is available for listening purposes on an audio feed at wpsu.org/trustees.
The Penn State Board of Trustees, infamous for their role in firing former football head coach Joe Paterno, must approve all athletic head coach contracts. The Compensation Committee is the committee with jurisdiction in this area before it moves to a vote of the full board. It’s possible these meetings have nothing to do with the basketball coaching opening but the timing sure does line up.
Penn State Athletics Director Sandy Barbour said she wanted to name one as soon as the season is over. This news could mean a lot of things…does this mean PSU won’t make the NIT?
This quick turnaround would appear to give interim HC Jim Ferry a leg up but it would have made more sense to announce this when now signed recruit Hutchins-Everett anounced his (re)-committment. Likely, it’s going to be Shrewsberry (Purdue) or Gates (Cleveland State), two of the more realistic candidates in our coaching search.
With NIT news forthcoming this evening and a potential coaching annoucement potentially days away, Penn State Basketball sure isn’t boring.
