One of Penn State Football’s key offensive line players for 2021, Juice Scruggs, is having a successful offseason.

Scruggs was named one of two Iron Lions of the Week, which is an award given out for weight room performance. He also was one of two student-athletes of the week, for his work in the classroom.

A 4-star back in 2018, Scruggs career was sidelined in the Spring of 2019 when he was involved in a car accident that left him with serious back injuries. He missed all of 2019 and got off to a slow start in 2020 because the pandemic took him away from campus, stunting his recovery a bit.

Scruggs came on strong during Fall camp in 2020, the delay of the start of the season helping him there. He played in all of Penn State Football’s last seven games in 2020, playing mostly guard.

Penn State Football’s offensive line seemingly performed better as Scruggs role expanded with the unit, as the Nittany Lions ended the season a four game winning streak.

With the departures of two interior starters, Michal Menet and Will Fries, the opportunity is there for Scruggs to start for the Nittany Lions in 2021. Being healthy, and able to be on campus and work with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, makes this a critical off-season for Scruggs.

It looks as though Scruggs’ off-season is headed in a positive direction and that is good news for Penn State fans, as Scruggs is one of the highest rated interior offensive lineman brought in by James Franklin.

Monday is the start of Spring practice for the Nittany Lions and Scruggs will be a name to keep an eye on during the Spring.
