Former Nittany Lions standout Alan Zemaitis is returning to his alma mater as the Assistant Recruiting Coordinator for Penn State football.

Alan Zemaitis played for Penn State from 2001-2005 and was a tri-captain on the 2005 B1G Championship team.

Zemaitis earned a spot on the All-Big Ten team three times, and was second team All-American in 2005. He earned a semifinalist position for the Jim Thorpe (best defensive back) award in both 2004 and 2005. Zemaitis’ highlight game in the blue and white was a three interception performance in East Lansing to clinch the conference championship.

Zemaitis finished with 181 tackles as a Nittany Lion.

What made his journey as a NIttany Lion even more incredible, is his recovery from an early 2002 car accident where his car flipped, causing his head to crash through the window. He was diagnosed with a fractured skull and a bruised long.

Zemaitis was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006 in the fourth round. He didn’t play much and was unable to overcome nagging injuries. He played one year in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and had been coaching at Susquehanna prior to his announcement:

Always a good calling card to have letterman involved in the recruiting trail to add further validity to the team and school they are promoting.

Assisting Recruiting Coordinator is an appropriate fit for Zemaitis (and we recommend he immediately start talking to whoever Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State are recruiting).
