Ryan Sokol, of Minnesota, wrestles Beau Bartlett, of Pennsylvania, (green) during Flowrestling’s Who’s Number One event, Saturday, Oct., 5, 2019, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.191005 Wno Wrestle 053 Jpg /

149 – Beau Bartlett – Fr.

Record: 1-2
Place: N/A

Grade: C+

Wins
No. 14 Michael North (MD), fall 0:56

Losses
No. 6 Michael Blockhus (MINN), 3-5 dec.
No. 4 Yahya Thomas (NU), 5-7 SV

Am I being generous in giving Bartlett a slightly above average grade even though he didn’t place? The short answer is no.

Beau was the victim of two heart breaking loses to higher ranked opponents. His round of 16 loss to Minnesota’s No. 6 Michael Blockhus was every bit as close as the 5-3 score indicated. Watching the match it appeared Bartlett was going to take control of the match and move on.

However, this didn’t end up being the case as Blockhus took advantage and control of the match with a takedown of his own. Blockhus is no slouch himself as he ended up making the semi-finals in the 149 group and eventually losing to Nebraska’s Ridge Lovett.

Bartlett then pinned his next opponent in the consolation bracket 0:56 into the match. Let’s go!

Unfortunately for Nittany Lion fans and Beau Bartlett, talented grappler Yahya Thomas from Northwestern was next in line. Bartlett pushed him to sudden victory with the score tied 5-5, where Thomas eventually slammed the door and slammed Bartlett’s B1G run into the ground with a takedown to win the match 7-5.

Beau wrestled good matches but he wasn’t able to pull out any close victories. Something tells me this will change in the future.
