Current Penn State Basketball coach Jim Ferry, and his predecessor, have been linked to Fordham’s head coaching opening

Is Penn State Basketball’s #theclimb moving 250 miles east?

Former Penn State Basketball head coach Pat Chambers is a leading candidate for the Head Coaching job at Fordham University.

According to hoopdirt.com, Pat Chambers is the third most likely candidate to be named the next HC at Fordham at 7/1, behind just Jared Grasso (HC at Bryant, 4/1 odds) and Shaheen Holloway (HC at St. Peter’s, 6/1 odds).  Fordham dismissed Jeff Neubauer in late January in his 6th year coaching the Rams, compiling a 61-104 (.370) record.

Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog has reported that the Rams have narrowed their search to the same leading candidates.  On Pat Chambers, he stated:

"“Hiring Chambers would come with some obvious baggage and it’s unclear how his hire would be received by African-American high school and AAU coaches and players…Chambers has reached out to numerous top elite AAU coaches in NY and the Northwest to explain that he made a mistake, has changed and is excited about the future.”"

Count me as one who fully believes Chambers can overcome one poor choice of words, and clearly current Penn State Basketball starting PG Jamari Wheeler agrees based on these tweets after their Senior Night win:

And, there’s another interesting name on hoopdirt.com, current PSU HC Jim Ferry!

Ferry is listed at 36/1 odds, the 10th most likely hire.

Only Penn State Basketball could fire a coach, name the interim head coach, an assistant coach the fired head coach personally hired, and then have both coaches end up interviewing against themselves for the same job elsewhere the next year.

If that’s not a perfect example of #ThePennStateBasketballStory, I don’t know what is.
